As a central city in the Yangtze River Delta and Hangzhou Bay, Hangzhou has been approved by the State Council as one of the provincial-level economic and cultural centers, and is also known as the central city of G60 science and innovation corridor.

Hangzhou has a history of more than 2200 years since the county was established in the Qin Dynasty. It was once the capital of the state of Wu and Yue and the Southern Song Dynasty. The 2016 G20 Summit, the 2018 World Short Pool Swimming Championship were held in Hangzhou.
