Administrative divisions

Ningbo governs six districts, two counties and two county-level cities, namely Haishu District, Jiangbei District, Zhenhai District, Beilun District, Yinzhou District and Fenghua District, Ninghai County and Xiangshan County, and Cixi City and Yuyao City. There are 73 towns, 10 townships, 73 sub-district offices, 775 residents committees and 2,159 village committees.

Regional area

The total land area of the city is 9,816 square kilometers, of which the urban area is 3,730 square kilometers. The total sea area of the Ningbo is 8355.8 square kilometers. According to the dynamic monitoring data of coastline in 2018, the total length of coastline is 1,678 kilometers, accounting for about one quarter of the coastline of the whole province. There are 611 islands in the city, covering an area of 277 square kilometers.

Natural geography

Climatic conditions

Ningbo is of the north subtropical monsoon climate, mild and humid, with four distinct seasons. The annual average temperature of Ningbo is 16.4 ℃, and the highest monthly average temperature is in July, 28.0 ℃, and the lowest in January, 5.4 ℃. The frost-free period in the city is generally 230 to 240 days. The average annual precipitation is about 1,480mm, with that from May to September accounting for 60% of the total. The annual average number of sunshine hours is 1,850.

Hydrological condition

Ningbo has one of the eight major water systems in Zhejiang Province, with three rivers, namely Yuyao River, Fenghua River and Yongjiang river. Yuyao River originates from the Lianghu Lake in Shangyu District of Shaoxing, and Fenghua River originates from Banzhu Village of Fenghua District of Ningbo. Yuyao River and Fenghua River converge into Yongjiang River at the “Sanjiangkou” Area in the urban area, flowing to the northeast and entering the East China Sea through Zhaobao Mountain.

Population

The permanent resident population of Ningbo stood at 9.544 million people by the end of 2021, with the proportion of urban residents in the total population (i.e. urbanization rate) being 78.4%.

GDP

The Gross Domestic Product of Ningbo totaled 1.45949 trillion yuan in 2021, up by 8.2% over the previous year, calculated at comparable prices.

Per capital GDP

The per capital GDP of Ningbo stood at 153,922 yuan (equivalent to US$23,858 at the annual exchange rate), calculated according to the permanent resident population.

Fiscal revenue and expenditure

In 2021, the city’s total fiscal revenue was 326.44 billion yuan, up by 15.1% over the previous year, including 172.31 billion yuan of general public budget revenue, up by 14.1%. The general public budget expenditure stood at 194.44 billion yuan, up by 11.6%.

Resident income

In 2021, the per capital disposable income of residents reached 65,436 yuan, up by 9.1% over the previous year, with the per capital disposable income of urban residents standing at 73,869 yuan, an increase of 8.6%, and the per capital disposable income of rural residents standing at 42,946 yuan, an increase of 9.7%.

Resident consumption

In 2021, the per capita living consumption expenditure of residents was 40,478 yuan, up by 17.5% over the previous year. To be specific, the per capita living consumption expenditure of urban residents was 45,362 yuan, an increase of 17.2%, and the per capita living consumption expenditure of rural residents was 27,451 yuan, an increase of 16.9%.

Resident savings

By the end of 2021, the balance of household RMB savings reached 938.73 billion yuan, up by 10.2% over the previous year.

City flower: camellia

The "city flower" of Ningbo is camellia, which is known to be resistant to the cold winter weather. Name: camphor tree

Family: large evergreen tree of camphor tree family

Alias: original camphor, fragrant camphor, bird camphor, etc.

Scientific name: Cinnamomum camphora (Linn.) Sieb.

Characteristics: it is native to southern provinces of China and distributed in Japan, Ryukyu and Vietnam. The sowing method is used for propagation, and the proper sowing time is spring.
